Pachnoda Fruit Beetle Grubs are beetle larvae that have been bred as live food for exotic pets. These fruit beetle grubs are great for dusting with calcium dust to give an extra boost of supplements. These beetles are bred in ethical conditions and make a great treat for healthy animals or a staple for those under the weather.

Are Fruit beetle grubs good for Bearded dragons?

Fruit beetle grubs are extremely popular with Bearded dragon keepers as they are easy to store and appealing to most Bearded dragons. However, these insects are very high in fat and may lead to poor health if overfed to your pet. They are best used as an occasional treat alongside less fatty livefood, such as Crickets or Locusts.

Do Fruit beetle grubs bite?

While not possessing the defensive capabilities of a Stag beetle, Pachnoda grubs are still capable of nipping your reptiles during a feed. If this is becoming a problem you can kill them before serving but some pets may find them less appetising. The bite of the grubs is designed to handle soft fruit like banana, mango and apple, and is unlikely to pose much of a threat to your lizard.

The benefits of using Fruit Beetle Grubs

Fruit Beetle Grubs are naturally high in fat and Protein, making them a delicious treat for many larger species of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. They can be useful for  providing a boost to gravid or post lay females. They are naturally wriggly, meaning even the most stubborn of feeders will show interest in these large grubs.

Fruit Beetle Grubs are best used as part of a varied diet, as with any livefood, variety is the key to providing a well balanced, nutritious diet. The addition of calcium and vitamins is recommended to further enhance the nutritional content of these grubs.

How long do live Pachnoda Fruit Beetle Grubs last?

We recommend feeding once a week or so as the grubs are better suited to being an occasional treat. We send our livefood as soon as possible, so each grub should last for between 3-5 months before becoming adult beetles, depending on the conditions they are kept in.

However, like most species of beetles, adult Fruit beetles can still be fed as livefood in a pinch, although their tough exterior might put off fussy eaters. Fruit beetles can also be used as Bioactive custodians as they will eat rotten fruit, leaves and live plants that smell and attract fruit flies.

Livefood food is despatched directly from the supplier the same day if you order before 12pm and the next day if you order after 12pm. Livefood is delivered Monday to Thursday on a next working day delivery service. Livefood is not suitable for express delivery.
